Sula Graham Consulting
I am a consultant and coach with over eight years of experience delivering training in diversity and inclusion, anti-racism, mental health awareness and self-development for businesses, charities and educational institutions.
My Story
My Background
I have an extensive background in education. My experience ranges from ten years in inner-London schools, working as a teacher, assistant head teacher and school improvement consultant, to two years in South Korea as an assistant head teacher. My key areas of expertise were leadership and management, culture and diversity, child protection, pastoral care and tackling extremism and gang prevention.
In 2019, I left education to become a full-time consultant and coach in my areas of specialism and went on to set up Sula Graham Consulting in January 2022.
I have a lived experience that makes me deeply qualified for this kind of work. As a mixed-race woman who grew up in a single parent family, I have faced numerous instances of racism, sexism and discrimination throughout my life, particular while studying at university and in the institutions where I worked. I know too well the impact discrimination can have on a person's wellbeing and ability to thrive in the workplace.
Growing up in Hackney and seeing the devastating effects of institutional racism and deprivation in my community, particularly for young black males, I wanted to get into education to help. I soon came to understand that young black males enter primary school as one of the highest achieving groups and leave secondary school as one of the lowest achieving. Something happens within education between those two vital stages and this became my driving force as an educator. My passion soon extended to helping all disadvantaged children and young adults in education and beyond.
My Approach
I believe everyone can succeed with the right tools and a level playing field. However, until we create a world free from racism, sexism, ableism, prejudice and discrimination, we must support those who face adversities, and educate those with advantages to use their power for change.
Having worked with people from all walks of life, from children and adolescents to adults, families, government institutions and private organisations, I am skilled at connecting with people and creating a warm, empathic environment within which to learn.
